Eva Cassidy. Elvis. Elton John. Eminem. Ellie Goulding.

Music and fashion come hand in hand. Since E is the last letter of my FASHION LOVE blog I was sitting here trying to come up with an idea..then on my spotify came on Eva Cassidy. This lead me to think of all the other artists with names beginning with E..so thought a wee sample of each would be quite pleasant =)

Eva Cassidy.

Taken too soon this soulful singer died of Melanoma in 1996. Her voice lives on.

Elvis.

King of Rock and Roll. Also taken too soon.

Elton John.

Still very much alive! Reginald Kenneth Dwight or Elton which ever you prefer...is still making music and performing..This is one of the ole favourites!

Eminem

Maybe not everyone's cup of tea...he has written a vast variety of songs which do not all include constant rapping...

Ellie Goulding

New to the scene..she has made quite impact..her cover of Elton John's "Your Song" for John Lewis has caused a bit of a stir..

I hope if anyone has time to give each song a wee listen they might hear something they like =)

For now...

Love always.

Vivienne Westwood.

An legend to the fashion world. In her many years in the industry she has created many iconic garments and said many iconic worda..here's a wee tribute to the lady herself.

Her bridal wear is known for being structured to create flamboyant waves of silky material in colours one would not usually choose for a wedding.

The Scot's love her because she uses tartan in a lot of collections in tribute to the country..any bride fancy a stags antlers veil? anyone? no?..

She loves a bit of bondage-esque styling...no running in these babys...

Her jewellery range may be elegant but manages to always have a hint of westwood's personality built in..

FOOFT.

Always an outspoken soul there are many quotes to choose from..

“I think it is terribly important to have opinions, and to think. We live in a world of action without thought.”

“Liberty throw away the key.”

Even though she is getting on a bit...I believe that will not hinder Westwood's passion and desire to design clothes that are just a but out there and unlike any other. The greatest thing about her designing is that she cannot draw at all!

There's hope to us artistically challenged yet!

Oh good lord what were they thinking?

Yes celebrtities do get it wrong sometimes...magazines devote pages and pages of pictures of bad outfit choices...here are a few of my favourites...

GAGA.

Trying to convey the view that no one should be treated like a piece of meat...

So you couldnt just get a t shirt that said that no?

She can tone down her dramatic theatric outfits sometimes and mixed modern edgy additions to classic pieces...

Ignore the butterflies attached to her eyelids and she is good to go!

FEARNE COTTON.

Known for her quirky style...I thought she could do no wrong..until these trousers made an appearance,,

Giving he illusion of a mahoosive bum and a never-ending crotch...just no.

Adding her own kooky accessories,,this LBD stands out!

KATIE PRICE.

Love her, Hate her. She has made headlines for her classic disastrous outfits...

Pregnancy+cut out dress=DISOOOOSTER.

Then she does suprise us with a few okay choices...

Cleavage hidden...less dramatic make-up..these are acceptble. Except Pandre's diamanté hat...get it sorted Pete!

MISCHA BARTON

The famous yo yo dieter has had a few rough patches since starring as Marissa on the OC...

What did I say about jeggings?...

But then she wows us all with her elegance..

Boom. Boom. Boom.

It is always comforting to know that even famous people with expert stylists can sometimes have a day where that dress really doesn't sit the way they hoped it would or the jeans that used to sit comfortably now cut into their sides...

Leggings

A horrific 80s comeback or just plain essential?

I remember wearing many multicoloured patterned leggings when I was young...looking back I thought I'd never be attiring them again...but they arrived back in the fashion scene a good few years ago now and have adapted to different trends and styles...

Leggings were worn originally for protection in past centuries in times such as WW2 for the military or for men in the Renaissance Period...I do not believe theirs would have been embellished with crystals...

Isabel Marant Folco sequin-embellished leggings

We all started with the plain black cotton elastic leggings as a staple...they can be worn with boots, heels, flats, sandals, jeans, shorts, dresses...anything!

But in recent times legging colours and patterns have evolved...for instance..

We have the floral...

fantastic in spring summer when it's still just  not warm enough for baring the legs...

Then theres the daring lace sort...

not the best for staying cosy....

The ripped...

The short...I think  they look like the cycling shorts you wore when you were 8 if worn alone but layered with other garments they reall make a statement...

Then theres ...*sigh*..the shiny..

only for the brave...

Leggings evolves further with the birth or jeggings or even treggings...

Jeggings are leggings which have been coloured and decorated to look like a pair of jeans..but without the hassle of actual denim...

Cheating really...

Then there are treggings which are alike jeggings in that they are leggings made to look like a pair of trousers except they have more structure to them and are usually made of thicker fabric..

I prefer them to jeggings..they kind've feel like comfy worn in jeans and they do have a button and zip so it does not feel as if you are just wearing a par of leggings.

But why have these fashions been created? It could be due to the increase of new fabrics being created and utilised in the fashion industry to make our lives easier and comfier...

What's going to happen to real denim and all it's stiff and non-forgiving properties?..

I'm all for increasing comfort in fashion but I would hope that the jeggings trend dies down soon so the real trousers have a chance!

THE EXTREME

THE CLASSIC

AND THE REALLY NIFTY ONES...

Nowadays...

  • There are around 548 shops on the mile and a half long street..

A few of the more well known stores on Oxford street are:

Selfridges.

INTERIOR DESIGN.

The design and coordination of the decorative elements of the interior of a house, apartment, office, or other structural space, including color schemes, fittings, furnishings, and sometimes architectural features.

Wherever you look interior design has played a part.

Where you work. Where you study. Where you sleep. Where you shop. Where you party.

Bungalow 8 Night Club in London.

All interior designers have their on take on things alike fashion designers. One of my favourites are duo Ron Woodson and Jaime Rummerfield:

These partners own a boutique which is ever changing with different themes and atmosphere throughout. A mix of vintage and high fashion modern pieces are used together which in turn creates a exquisite room.

http://www.wandrdesign.com/ Take a look for yourself!

Interior design takes into account not only the colour scheme and atmosphere of a room...it accounts for the products of a household: furniture, flooring, ornaments, lighting, wallpaper, windows, curtains, skirting boards....the list is endless.

Here are a few images  award winning interior product design and interior design:

i

And with any type of fashion there is always the "out there" designs....:

The Snail House.

The random...

The designer..

.

This apartment is designed with nautical stripes throughout and is owned by renowned fashion designer: Jean Paul Gaultier.

And then there's just the plain old fun!

Imagine waking up to that everyday as a 5 year old...

Interior design is a very large and diverse industry such as fashion and it will continue to grow and change every day...

My thoughts are...the more cosy looking the better!

HOUSES.

This week I'll be looking at the exterior design of houses.

Some people can become obsessed with how their homes look from the outside from passer-bys..It is now becoming a type of fashion.

There are more and more housing magazines showing interior design which is a main part of a house but if what they say about "judging a book by it's cover" is true...then don't people judge a house by it's bricks?

There are many ways in which a house can really stand out due to it's physical appearance...

The garden

The luxury...

Even a front gate can make a house stand out..

Your childhood dreams can come true...

Then there is the reeeally different...

All in all...if you see a person who you do not assume is fashionable due to their clothing style or whatever..remember there is more to clothes when it comes to fashion!

Next week I will be looking into Interior Design of Houses...

Stiletto.

They may make your legs look longer and thinner....

But at the same time, they are shortening you Achilles tendon-The fibrous tissue that connects your heel to your lower leg.

Think walking in heels is hard? It would be impossible if you destroyed this important tendon.

When one wears stiletto heels the pressure on the ball of the foot sevenhold. It is not only high heels that do this - wearing completely flat shoes can cause the Achilles Tendon to rupture..say goodbye to walking properly ever again.

Other health issues related to wearing stiletto heels are Osteoarthritis of the knee - if you thought arthritis was only for old people then think again, bunyons and toe deformities....

From this...To this...

Of course it is not all doom and gloom when it comes to this wardrobe essential...

Other people claim that exercising in stilettos can be more beneficial to your end results that exercising in fitness trainers. Due to the fact that your calf muscles are constantly working when wearing heels, many people have come to conclusion that this means that your calves will tone up quicker due to the volume of pressure on them. This may be the case but simultaneously it is destroying the lower leg and increasing the chances of health defects in the future.

"Pole-fit" is the newest craze where women wear their high heels whilst learning to pole dance which does take a lot of strength and stanima to do properly.

This method of exercising can burn up to 350 calories in a 1 hour session...pretty impressive. Another benefit to doing pole-fit is that it boosts women's self confidence.

I am not saying that women should NEVER wear stiletto heels... That's just evil! there are faaar too many beautiful shoes out there to spend our money on! It has been said that women in average can spend up to £33,000 on shoes in a lifetime... Seems fair enough to me!

ANNA WINTOUR

Modelling one of her favourite styles-Fur, fur and more fur.

Animal Cruelty Activists have gone to town with demonstrating their intense hatred for Wintour. She has had a range of items thrown at her including a tofu pie, fake blood and even a dead raccoon.

It is said that Anna Wintour’s leadership style was inspired by her father who also held a reputation of being fiercely stern and independant. Now he must have been scary.

Anna began her career in fashion working in the fashion department of Harpers & Queens department store in London. By 1976 she had moved to New York to take on role as Fashion Editor for Harpers and Bazaar at the young age of 27. Up until 1988 Wintour moved from company to company using her unique fashion guidance and knowledge to help fashion companies take on fresh new looks. She took on her role as Editor-in-Chief for American Vogue in 1988 and still holds this position today. It did not take long for Wintour to make serious changes to the way Vogue was run and perceived. The late editor in chief, Grace Mirabella opted for covers showing headshots of very famous supermodels and using only the most luxury and expensive garments. After making several changes to staff,  Wintour brought in lesser known models and celebrities and started mixing some of the inexpensive garments with the high end pieces. This was her debut front cover for American Vogue:

From then on Wintour went on to drive Vogue to the luxurious and successful magazine it is today. She is also responsibe for the descendant magazines of Vogue – Teen Vogue, Vogue Living and Mens Vogue.

Wintour is now 61 years old so one would assume she will retire in the next few years.
I don’t think so!
I believe Wintour will hold on to her post until she feels she has found someone who is as powerful and as fearless as her. Going by her nickname - Nuclear Wintour - It will take someone very special/terrifying to fill her shoes. And they will have to be furry shoes at that knowing Wintour's love for fur...none of this faux fur rubbish!

Maybe Meryl Streep could advise some wannabe Vogue Editor-in-Chiefs on how to do it the Wintour Way.
